Vineyards in California’s Central Valley, approximately 100kms from San Francisco and lying at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, have gained a reputation for the excellence of their Shiraz grapes. Not only do the mountains afford natural protection from storm fronts during the growing season, they promote climate conditions that are virtually ideal for the production of premium grapes. Warm daytime temperatures drop at night, creating a warm/cool climate that results in a long growth cycle. When they are not rushed by unabated hot weather to mature, Shiraz grapes develop concentrated varietal character and complexity on the vine.
