The Limarí Valley can be found at the edge of the Atacama Desert - one of the driest places on Earth. Despite the extreme conditions, it is a paradise for grape production. The word ‘Maycas’ means ‘a block of land’ in Quechua, the ancient Inca language. The Incas based their calendar on the sun god, ‘Inti’ and the Maycas label design is an accurate depiction of this calendar. Each turquoise dot (or junka) represents a 10 day week. So, the number of dots, different for each grape variety, shows the number of days between picking the grapes and bottling the wine.
