Tasting Notes
An impressive red from vineyards in the Hawkes Bay area, mainly the important sub region of Gimblett Gravels. The wine is soft and approachable with up-front bright, ripe red cherry, raspberry and cassis balanced by subtle cedar-like spice from 12 months barrel ageing and grained tannins; the finish is soft and long.

Founded in 1961, Villa Maria has grown to be New Zealand’s most successful privately owned producer, achieving extraordinary results in competitions worldwide. Villa Maria has two modern wineries – the stunning state of the art Auckland winery and vineyard park which was opened in 2005 and the Marlborough winery set amid gorgeous scenery just outside Blenheim. In 2004 Villa Maria achieved certification at the Higher Level to the British Retail Consortium Standards, a tribute to their exacting quality standards. The winemaking philosophy is to be non-intrusive, allowing the flavours of the fruit and the character of the vineyard to be expressed through the wine.
